Our final look at remaining Championship battles concentrates on the classes.
Class C3 where Alistair Brearley’s Mk2 currently leads Graeme Sherry’s Manta by 3 points, although Graeme’s co-driver Ewan Lees is already guaranteed the Co-driver’s title.
Newly crowned Junior Champion Robert Proudlock is only 1 point ahead of Keith Riddick’s MG ZR in Class M2. With the Adam sold, Robert is keeping his cards close to his chest on what car he will be in on Carlisle, and whether it will be a Class M2 car. Keith’s sister Mairi has already secured the Co-driver’s title.
In Class M4, John Crawford will take the title in his glorious sounding Mk2 with the bonus points for starting the final round, while Shaina Archibald needs just 2 more points over and above the bonus points on the last round to guarantee the title. Anything less and David O’Brien could snatch the title at the last gasp, but only if he gets maximum points.
3 Drivers and their respective Co-drivers can still claim Class M7.
Michael Binnie and Claire Mole currently lead from Mark McCulloch and Michael Hendry, and with the latter having to drop a score the Evo crew are in pole position, assuming they can get the car repaired in time. However, as the top 3 overall drivers and co-drivers are ineligible for class awards, either or both of these crews may drop out of contention.
So, current 3rd placed crew Angus Lawrie and Paul Gribben could jump to the top of the standings to claim another trophy in their impressive season.
In the first of the Historic classes, the wee Sunbeam of David McLeod needs a finish to take top honours should nearest rival Stuart Egglestone win the class on the day. Positions are reversed for their respective co-drivers however, where Brian Hodgson will win the class with the starting bonus points.
In Class H2, Donald Brooker’s Legacy leads the way, 5 points ahead of Steve Bannister’s Mk2. Both will be competing on their 6th event this year so no dropped scores to take into account, therefore Donald simply needs to finish to clinch the class. A finish would likewise give Co-driver Tony Booth the title alongside his driver, but should they slip up both Callum Atkinson and Patricia Lee (whose season alongside husband Ernie has been somewhat curtailed due to Covid) could claim the title.
Finally, it could yet all change at the top of class Pro4 as, like Class M7, final positions are very much dependent on which crews ultimately finish in the top 3 standings in the overall championships.
